It’s never nice to see people being taken advantage of. That’s why last week we were delighted to do a good deed for a lovely lady in her 90s, who had unfortunately been ripped off by a rogue trader.
It all started with a knock at the door and a man asking if the lady would like two trees in her back garden cutting down for £400. She agreed and he started work, but this quickly escalated to £1200 as more work was identified in the garden – work which he was pushing to do but she didn’t want and couldn’t afford.
Luckily one of the neighbours noticed that something was wrong and shortly six of them had stepped in to drive the man away.
One of the neighbours was an Artemis customer, so she called us to ask if we could go round and see what this rogue trader had tried to do. In short, he hadn’t done a lot and what he had started work on was very sub-standard and not necessary! We advised what work might need to be done – which was definitely not over a thousand pounds worth!
We hate to see someone vulnerable being treated unfairly, so we were happy to go to the rescue and do all the work for free.
This week our team went into the garden and cut back two trees, one overhanging the greenhouse, and we also reduced the height of a hedge to make it more manageable. But we didn’t stop there, we also gave her garden a little tidy up – mowing the lawn and strimming around the edges.
The lady (who wanted to remain anonymous) was delighted, and we were more than happy to help her out.
