Our team carried this project out in a customer’s back garden. The work involved a combination of crown reduction, hedge maintenance, stump grinding, and new tree planting.
Ash tree crown reduction
The main feature of the garden was a mature Ash tree measuring approximately 14 metres in height with a wide crown. Following a full tree inspection, our qualified arborists recommended a crown reduction to control the tree’s size, improve structural balance, and reduce future risk while maintaining the tree’s natural shape.

All pruning cuts were made back to suitable growth points, leaving the tree at approximately 11 metres tall with a well-balanced, healthy structure. This method encourages strong regrowth and helps extend the life of the tree.
Leyland Cypress Hedge Trimming and Maintenance
The garden also featured a Leyland cypress hedge approximately 5 metres high. Our team carried out professional hedge cutting and shaping, trimming only the client’s side and removing just the current season’s growth to keep the hedge neat while preserving privacy and screening.
A dead section of hedge was safely removed, and the remaining hedge stumps were ground down to approximately 200mm below ground level using specialist stump grinding equipment, allowing for future replanting and preventing regrowth.
Stump Grinding and New Tree Planting
After stump removal, the area was prepared for new tree planting, helping to restore the garden’s appearance and improve biodiversity.
