Watch: How Artemis Tree Services removed a substantial number of large trees along Brook Street, Kingston upon Thames
Artemis Tree Services has a multi-skilled team, enabling us to be versatile and adept at handling jobs of all sizes; from pruning small fruit trees in gardens to large scale commercial tree work on redevelopment sites.
On one such project we were brought in to remove a row of council-owned trees in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, London. The large scale regeneration project involved the demolition of four buildings in the busy town centre on one of the busiest bus routes in the UK. The job required close liaison between local authorities and service providers before demolition could begin on the street. Once the initial phase of the demolition was done we were put into action to take down the trees.
Artemis coordinated between the demolition contractors and the Borough tree officer to organise permissions for the removal of the trees. Two large London Plane trees, each 20m tall, had to be dismantled in sections. This was accomplished using rigging techniques to avoid damaging the scaffolding around the demolition site, the road surface beneath the trees or the buildings on the opposite side of the street. Additionally two Hornbeam trees, each 15m tall, were brought down to ground level and a smaller tree was felled. The residual tree stumps of all the trees were ground out.
As the project took place in a bustling town centre along a street which ordinarily has up to 25 buses per hour passing through, we had to work with the local council and Transport For London to organise road closure and traffic management. Comprehensive method statements were needed to ensure safety of the general public, safety of other contractors on site and the safety of our team working on the clearance.
The Artemis arborists worked together under the expert guidance of our team leader to ensure the job was completed within strict time limitations and safety regulations. By the time street was re-opened to traffic and pedestrians, there was no trace of Artemis having been there. Take a look at the video above to see how we did it.
