Pedalling for Trees: Artemis Joins the Urban Tree Life Cycle Ride

At Artemis Tree Services, we are proud to support Fund4Trees and their mission to promote proper tree establishment and aftercare across the UK. This September, we are excited to be promoting the annual Urban Tree Life Cycle (UTLC) charity bike ride – a unique two-day event that combines cycling, community engagement, and vital tree care.

Our Managing Director, Simon, one of the Fund4Trees Trustees, will be taking part in the hard-core ride and we invite you to support this worthwhile cause by sponsoring him on his challenge.

About the Ride

The UTLC ride takes place on 10–11th September and highlights the importance of aftercare in the life cycle of urban trees.

Day 1 – Hard-Core Ride (10th September)

  • An 80-mile return trip from Birmingham to Worcester.
  • Includes a re-pollarding of an ancient oak tree (to extend its life and support biodiversity).
  • Pupils from Cherry Orchard Primary School will plant a succession oak, using woodchip mulch from the pollard.

Day 2 – Social Ride (11th September)

  • A 15-mile community ride around Birmingham.
  • Workshops with schoolchildren and local groups at three sites: The Hub, Castlevale, and Ambridge House.
  • Hands-on young tree aftercare activities, demonstrating how crucial proper care is to ensure survival.

Why It Matters

Tree planting is only the beginning. A recent Research project carried out by Fund4Trees reviewed over 820 locations across 4 UK cities and results shows that:

  • Of the 687 trees confirmed planted, only 79% survived,
  • Just 3% were ‘unscathed’, and
  • Only 42% are in good condition.

This shows how important proper aftercare is if we want trees to thrive in our towns and cities. Fund4Trees’ work is helping to change the narrative – from tree planting to tree establishment.

How You Can Help

By sponsoring Simon and supporting Fund4Trees, you’ll be helping raise awareness and much-needed funds for:

  • Tree aftercare workshops in schools and communities,
  • Research into tree establishment,
  • Projects that ensure the next generation of urban trees thrives.

Join us in supporting this inspiring cause and cheer on Simon as he takes on the 80-mile challenge for healthier, greener cities.
