Stump grinding removes unsightly or inconvenient stumps to below ground level which enables repurposing of the area where the tree once stood for laying turf, replacing fencing or planting a flower bed. Stump grinding also removes any trip hazards, especially in areas with a lot of footfall.
At Artemis we have a couple of options available to us dependent on factors like ease of site access, ground condition and stump size.
Rayco 13hp pedestrian stump grinder
This is our narrow access Rayco 13hp pedestrian stump grinding machine. At only 66cm, this is usually used for our domestic clients with an alleyway and a standard garden gate.
Predator 50HP Tracked stump grinder
This Is our large tracked 50hp Predator stump grinder. We only need 82cms for this machine to get into site and it will remove ANY tree stump if access allows. This machine is predominantly used on council contracts or large development sites.
A busy cemetery in Hampstead, London had a long standing Willow tree nestled in between multiple graves that was suffering from decay and damage at its base.
Artemis advised removing the tree to make the area safe for public access.
Artemis felled the tree, dismantling it in sections to avoid any damage to surrounding gravestones.
We were then able to access the stump with our large Predator stump grinder. This machine has caterpillar tracks enabling us to take it between graves without damaging the surrounding lawned areas.
The stump was excavated to below ground level in an area slightly larger than the stump diameter. A small mound of soil and wood grindings was left behind to fill the hole which will settle to ground level over time, ready to be re-turfed.
